★★★★☆ 4.0 / 5 Stars Jane Schoenbrun has once again made a movie that feels deeply personal, completely singular, and unmistakably their own. Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma is a wildly meta horror-comedy that uses the conventions of the slasher movie to explore sexual awakening, queerness, self-discovery, and the complicated relationship we … [Read more…]
★★☆☆☆ 1.5 / 5 Stars There’s something perfect about a one-word Jason Statham movie title. Mutiny. Beekeeper. Shelter. You already know what you’re getting. And honestly? I’m completely okay with that. Mutiny, directed by Jean-François Richet, is essentially another installment of the Jason Statham formula. This time, Statham plays Cole Reed, the former badass-turned-head-of-security … [Read more…]
Brian Duffield’s Whalefall was already one of my most anticipated movies of the year, and after this new trailer? Yeah, I’m completely locked in. The film stars Austin Abrams and Josh Brolin, with Abrams playing Jay Gardiner, a young man who heads into the ocean searching for his late father’s remains. Things obviously go very, … [Read more…]
★★★★★ 4.5 / 5 Stars Matt Johnson is having quite the year. Coming off Nirvanna the Band the Show, which is probably the funniest movie I’ve seen all year, Johnson now takes a hard left turn with Tony, a much more complex and dramatic story about one of the most universally beloved figures of … [Read more…]
Another Kingdom Hearts IV trailer has dropped, this time coming out of D23, and while there isn’t a ton of new information here, I still find myself getting excited every time Square Enix gives us another glimpse at this game. The big headline this time is Coco. The world of Pixar’s Coco is officially coming … [Read more…]
★★☆☆☆ 2.0 / 5 Stars Will Gluck knows his way around a rom-com. After Easy A and the massive success of Anyone But You, he returns with One Night Only, a charming, funny, and very predictable romantic comedy that worked for me largely because of its two fantastic leads: Callum Turner and Monica Barbaro. … [Read more…]
The first full-length trailer for Lance Oppenheim’s Primetime just dropped, and I’m honestly stunned by this thing. Going into this movie, I already felt like there was at least one guarantee: we were going to get an incredible Robert Pattinson performance. Pattinson has been on such an absurd generational run lately that at this point, … [Read more…]
I couldn’t be more out on the MCU right now. At this point, I genuinely think the whole thing might be cooked. I’ve been watching Spider-Man movies in theaters for more than 20 years, and I saw Spider-Man: Brand New Day in the same theater where I saw the first Tobey Maguire Spider-Man. Spider-Man himself, … [Read more…]
The first trailer for Michael B. Jordan’s The Thomas Crown Affair is here, and I have to say—it looks incredible. I’ll admit I was a little skeptical when this remake was first announced. Both previous versions of The Thomas Crown Affair are really good in their own right, so I wasn’t sure another take was … [Read more…]
The trailer for Jumanji: Open World just dropped, and I have to be honest—I thought it was rough. For me, the jig is up on this franchise. That’s not coming from someone who hated the last two movies, either. I actually really liked them. The first Jumanji reboot was one of the biggest surprise hits … [Read more…]
